About the artist
Dubai based artist Lisa Fabian was born in Sydney, Australia in 1963.
The daughter of an accomplished artist Lisa soon realized her passion for painting at an early age when she won first and second prize in an art show as a child but it wasn't until her move to Dubai in 2002 that this passion became serious and painting became her profession.
Lisa's chosen medium is acrylic and she has various abstract styles. Her work can be heavily textured having many layers, an acrylic watercolour which can give a very fluid look, sometimes even marbled or a mixed media piece. She paints on canvas and also reverse paints on plexiglas. In every case her work takes on a life of its own. The paintings almost have a heartbeat.
Through her layering of paints and use of mixed media, Lisa creates works of art that first mesmerize and then compels the viewer to look within. A connection is made between the viewer and the canvas.
In her own words Lisa says of her work....
"My work is an enormous joy and one that I am truly passionate about. It is completely consuming and that is what makes it so interesting. At times the paint will have a mind of its own but the result is a fusion of colour, intuition and energy.
The fluid nature of the paint is what appeals so much to me. There is an unpredictable, totally random process involved in creating the end piece that surprises me each and every time. The piece takes on a definite presence.
I don't ever attempt realism. I leave that to mother nature and photographers....they do a much better job. I much prefer the abstract, allowing my work to portray a sense of rhythm and emotion, and in the process I bare my soul for the world to see.
These abstract works are unique each and every time and if you look deeper into my work you might just see something quite unexpected."
Lisa was selected to take part in the 2008 Emaar International Art Symposium. Fifteen painters and fifteen sculptors from around the world were chosen to participate. Her work from the symposium will be hanging in a prestigious Emaar project in the near future.
Lisa's work can be found in private residences in Australia, the UK and the UAE, offices and hotels in the UAE and exclusive furniture showrooms in Dubai. She is available for commissions and her work can be viewed privately upon request.
